Tran Voter Registration Drive Nets 1,500
New Republicans in just 5 weeks
(Garden Grove) - Garden Grove Councilman and 68th Assembly District Republican
frontrunner “Van Tran“ announced today that 1,500 new Orange County Republican
voters have been registered in the closing weeks of 2003.
"I am extremely pleased with the results," said Van Tran. "Our
President will need as many Republican votes from California as we can
muster, and I am committed to delivering this state for his re-election."
" I expect several thousand more new Republicans to register from
our efforts alone," added Tran.
With a goal of registering 20,000 new GOP voters in and around the 68th
Assembly District, the voter registration project is similar in design
to highly successful previous Vietnamese-American registration efforts.
The 68th Assembly District has one of California's highest concentrations
of Asian and Pacific Islander residents, a majority of whom are of Vietnamese
descent. These numbers are just those certified through December 2003,
with thousands more expected before the February 16th deadline.
"Mark Leyes has attacked Van Tran for registering Republican Voters,
which to me seems just ludicrous," said Van Tran spokesman Paul Hegyi.
"Leyes just doesn't get it. Van has been working extremely hard to
bring the Viet community into the Republican column, and the latest results
clearly prove his effectiveness. Perhaps Leyes should stop attacking and
start helping register Republicans."
Leyes, a former Democrat campaign operative, actively worked to defeat
Republicans back in the nineties, while Van Tran was working to advance
the Republican agenda.
