Our District
California’s 68th Assembly District is located
in the heart of Orange County, with current voter registration at 45%
Republican, 33% Democrat.
The two largest cities, Costa Mesa and Garden
Grove, together comprise more than half of the district, which also includes
portions of Westminster, Fountain Valley, Anaheim, and Stanton.
2003 Recall Election
In 2003, this district favored the Recall
of Democrat Governor Gray David by 72% to 29%. Voters then elected Governor
Arnold Schwarzenegger with 60% of the vote.
March 2004 Primary
Election
The 68th District is also home to one of
the largest Vietnamese-American populations, including over 30,000 registered
Vietnamese-American voters. Republican nominee Van Tran is poised to become
the first Vietnamese-American in history to join a state legislature.
Van Tran handily defeated his well know primary opponent, 57% to 43%.
During the primary, Van Tran was nearly unanimously endorsed by the Assembly
Republican caucus, and he received high profile support from Congressmen
Ed Royce and Dana Rohrabacher, as well as numerous other legislators and
local elected officials.
Van Tran is widely considered one of the California Republican Party's
rising stars, and with a proven track record of winning tough elections,
Tran is a favorite to win higher offie after his term in the Assembly.
